A writer and editor by trade, I love to draw—mostly pictures of my dogs, River and Calla. Here, I post drawings, photos and other artwork of the two cutest animals ever (and some of their very adorable friends). Subscribe to get an email when there's a new drawing. Questions? Contact me. Calla, ink on watercolor paper. This was another airplane doodle, done on the way to my honeymoon in Hawaii.
River with a flipped ear, ink and watercolor, 2011. Finally got around to scanning some of my drawings from the past year, so I’ll post them over the next few days. This one is of River’s signature look: what we call the “flip ear” (read that in dog voice for the full effect).
Calla in Forest Park. A good friend and I went for a bit of a hike in Forest Park this afternoon. We left River at home with her dad (she’s still on bed rest from her broken toe). It was hard to leave River behind, but I think Calla enjoyed having some alone time with her mama. And she didn’t bark at a single hiker we encountered along the way. This is serious improvement.
Look closely—can you see River’s “cone of shame”? She got into a fight with another dog and ended up with two bites, one at the base of her ear and one on her leg. Both required stitches. She spent a long, scary day at the hospital yesterday, so we gave her this get-well-soon toy duck when we picked her up. She’s been carrying it around ever since.
